Kia-Ora

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Kia-Ora drink had a memorable animated ad featuring a little black boy marching along a beach. He was trailed by a whole host of wacky characters all singing along to the most catchy theme tune. Kia-Ora was "too orangey for crows"

Can’t imagine this ad being given any air time now! They’re even changing Disney’s Splash Mountain so the ‘stereotypes’ on here wouldn’t stand a chance! ‘It’s too aurangee for crows...’

Yeah, it was done in 1930s American jazz cartoon-style. The sharp-dressed crow offers to be the lads dog in return for a nip of Kia-Ora, and starts barking rhythmically. He's followed by another, taller crow with a deeper voice, and the cavalcade gets longer and longer. It includes a rubber-limbed basketball- playing bird, a saxophonist whose saxophone had it's own pair of legs, and a 'coal black momma' washerwoman whose bundle of laundry she's carrying on her head unravels and forms a set of clothes that jives along on it's own! The ad. was very retro, harking back to the 'silly symphonies' cartoons of early '30s America, in which black people and crows were often depicted together for some reason.
