Battleship was an exciting strategy board game where you had to try and destroy your opponent's naval fleet by guessing their positions on a large playing area. The playing board comprised two sea areas separated by a vertical screen so that the players could not see the positions of each other's destroyers, aircraft carriers and cargo ships.

Each player would take it turns to 'fire' a missile in to the sea at a grid location like A1, B2 or whatever. Once you had a 'hit' you could fairly quickly work out the position of the boat and destroy with a few more careful shots.
