Adam and the Ants

Punk rock band from the 70's and 80's. Adam Ant (real name Stuart Goddard) formed Adam and the Ants in 1977 and quickly acquired a cult following. In 1979 the band hired Malcolm McClaren to help revamp their image and in 1980 released their successful album "Kings of the Wild Frontier". This was followed up almost immediately in 1981 by another successful album "Prince Charming" just before the Ants disbanded. Adam Ant became a solo artist in 1982 and released his most successful album yet "Friend or Foe". In the years that followed Adam Ant released more albums and appeared at Live Aid in 1985. Adam Ant also appeared in several films and TV shows.

Adam's new album is out on Monday 21st Jan 2013 - I finally got to see him live (3x) in 2012 and it was worth the wait. Adam is still fantastic live.

Still got my records and have recently updated them to cd. What a fantastic time......Back in the days when pop stars and the like still had a bit of mystery because their lives were'nt doccumented in weekly celeb mags!!!You just had to let your teenage mind run amock!!!!Build your own fantasies! Adam and the Ants were my first crush, but in particular, Terry lee miall. I was desperate for the white greasepaint make-up to get the white stripe! and am gutted that i didn't think of the white shoe polish like one of the other writers. Genius improvisation !

Malcolm McLaren suggested the Burundi drums and the image but in reality what he also did was take a £1000 off him and nick his original band to form Bow Wow Wow backing Annabel Lwin (the original Jailbait!) Adam recruited the classic Ants lineup and went onto megastardom whereas BWW went off to the Job Centre with 3 million others!

Adam Ant was my first crush. I used to think he was the sexiest man alive...although didn't really know what sexy meant.

Can't remember which song (possibly Ant Music or Stand and Deliver) had big drums at the start, we (me and my sibblings) made some drums out of Quality Street tins and cling film with rubber bands and used to play along using knitting needle drumsticks (obviously not for long as the split). Saddos.

Hated them to begin with ( 'cos everybody else loved them ) but they hadn't bad stuff, and an original visual aspect. Things went belly-up for them at the height of their fame ( unfortunately ) but what of hthem from their formation in '77 to chart success late 1980 ? Antmusic was my favourite.
