Pez

Brick shaped candies that are sold in refill packs to be dispensed from Pez dispensers. Apparently Pez sweets were originally sold as peppermints in Austria with the word Pez being an abbreviation of the German word pfefferminz (peppermint). For a time, they were used as an alternative to cigarettes (no, you didn't smoke them you ate them instead of smoking a cigarette) and later in 1948 the first Pez dispensers were introduced.

The original dispensers didn't have cartoon heads on them but these were introduced 4 years later and became very popular with children who traded them with each other.

More than 3 billion Pez candies are consumed each year around the world and over 300 different dispensers have been produced.

Haven't seen them in ages ! The real beauty was in offering sweets to your mates & showing off your dispenser ( mind you your mates could feck off if the dispensers held Ferrero Rochers ). I remember I had one with Speedy Gonzales.
