Talk Talk

What can I say? Talk Talk were one of the best bands around in the 80's. They were fronted by Mark Hollis whose distinctive voice could not be mistaken with anyone else. Talk Talk had fantastic hit singles including: "It's My Life" (recently covered by No Doubt), "Life's What You Make It", "Dum Dum Girl", "Talk Talk", "My Foolish Friend", "Such a Shame" and more.

I've got their debut album, of the same name as the band- I love them. They (along with Ice House and ABC) are the outstanding sound of the early 1980s as far as I'm concerned. Many people think of Culture Club, Wham! and similar bands when they talk about the sound of the New Romantic era. Not me- I focus upon the haunting, eerie, chiming harmonies of minor-key synthesisers, the sort of thing that TalkTalk specialised in. I never understood why 'The Party's Over' never did better in the record sales figures.

You forgot to mention their first hit - 'Today'. A record I thought highly enough of to add to my collction of 7-inch singles!
