Fray Bentos

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Does anyone remember those tinned pies?! I remember my dad used to like them, and I thought they were so exciting because they came in a tin! Don't actually remember eating one though.......

These are very much still available from most supermarkets. I used to like the way the pastry used to become crispy. Delicious.

Absolutely lovely! My late husband and I often had one of these. With a big pile of homemade chips. Smashing! I thought they were only Steak and Kidney ones, didn't realize there were other fillings.

Was going to say I think you can still get these. I remember my mates mum opening one, then realising she didn't know how to cook it so she turned it upside down to read the instructions. ...

Fray Bentos round tins are still widely available. They come in 4 varieties that I know of - I prefer Steak & Kidney. Others include Beef & Onion, Steak & Ale and Chicken & Mushroom. There used to be a Steak & Vegetable but that seems to have been discontinued. I also enjoy the Steak & Kidney Pudding that they make.

I still buy Fray Bentos s&k pies. They're first-rate, lots of big chunks of steak, pieces of kidney you can actually taste and a crisp puff pastry top! (No, I don't work for Fray Bentos!) Where else can you get a good Sunday dinner for two for under 2 quid (+ veg)?! Important to us poor pensioners!
