Alphabet Candy

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Remember the little cardboard boxes decorated like a child's ABC building blocks;? Inside were those hard candy alphabet sweets (still sold by the gram). I only ever saw them in supermarkets. I think Marks & Sparks might have sold them in multipacks for a while, too.

There is a lovely sweet shop in the arcade in Skipton that sells them! I saw them there the other day and you can buy them loose aswell. Fantastic little shop that sells loads of retro sweets!

My gran used to buy me these in the 60s. We used to call them cashews. No wonder I still have a weight problem. I think they were made of sugar, colouring and not much else! They were lovely!

There were two kinds of these - One recipe tasted of sugar but not much else, but the GOOD ones had more of a "tang" to them, and these were the ones I liked the best. Trouble was, both kinds looked identical, so it was hard to tell when you were in the sweet shop what type was in the jar!
