The Mysterious Cities of Gold

This was a superb cartoon, made in 1982 and set in 1532. The lead character was a boy called Esteban who knows very little about his background and doesn't know who his parents were. Whilst on a trip from Spain to the New Americas, Esteban meets up with another boy called Tao and a girl called Zia.

All three children are searching for something, Esteban and Zia are both looking for their fathers and Tao is looking for his peoples / tribe. The trail for all three children leads to the Mysterious Cities of Gold and they are accompanied by Mendoza, the navigator, on their journey.

I just ordered the box set from Amazon and can't wait for it to arrive. Had the theme tune stuck in my head all week after seeing a clip of Philip Schofield in the broom cupboard singing along to the last episode. I can't remember if i watched it myself but i'm sure i'll enjoy it :)

Even today I like to go on YouTube and listen to the theme song. It was very magical and showed the Incas and very early south american civilisations. I don't remember them finding the cities. But i know they found a large golden plane that looked like a bird.

This was the best cartoon on the television when I was a child in the mid 80's. In later episodes they introduce the Olmecs, a race of people that predate the Mayans and Incas, but in the cartoon they are a master race of aliens hence the advanced technology and so on :) and at the end they melt the city of gold well Estebans father does while trying to save the world i think haha could go on and on I loved this show so much
