Toys TOYS

Starbird

Starbird, as far as I remember, was about a foot long and was equipped with a motion-sensor that would indicate whether you were diving or climbing. It was also equipped with two front flashing LED's accompanied with a laser sound.

The front cockpit actually detatched from the X-wing type rear-end, which was really cool as all the sound/light functions were in the front cockpit section.

Later on in the eighties they bought out an evil version of Starbird which was slightly smaller and black in colour and I think was called the Starbird Avenger.

For me the Starbird was a must-have toy of its time - I had one!

I am 38 this year, and whilst putting the Christmas decorations away in their home in the loft I saw my Starbird and command base, I dug it out and now my 9 year old son has forgotten all about his DS and Wii and won't it down. The sound of the roaring engine climbing still brings a smile to my face.

I remember having both starbird and intruder, but never the base....didnt know it existed until now! The black intruder was definitely my favourite, as it was smaller and far more serious looking! I seem to remember both being donated to my mate when i was 6 as we were moving and had no room for them.....how I cried!

Still have my Starbird in its box, the box is a bit scuffed now but what can youe expect from a 25 year old toy! I never ever got the base, my parents refused to pay money for 'cardboard' so I had to wait until 4 years and bought one still in its shrinkwrap on ebay!!! Sad I know, I've built it once, took some pics and its been in its box ever since. There are plenty on ebay if you want one. I have also bought a bigtrak, a simon and a Starbird avenger, all because I never got them back then....the deprivation!! Still got my 5 speed raleigh bomber though...Memories!!

yes, this was a great toy,MB really knew how to corner the market for youngsters through the 80's. i remember having both base and star bird, i got mine for xmas one year and was still playing with it the next year. i was gutted as mine went to a car booty back in the late 80's.
