Quatro

Quatro was the best drink ever! I can still smell and taste it today. It had a wonderful 4-squared multi-coloured insignia that was luminous green colour. Wonderful TV adverts – a man approaches a futuristic vending machine and inserts his electronic Quatro card (you have to consider that ATMS were only just appearing at that time in the mid 80s so this in itself was quite exciting), a can of ice cold Quatro flies out of the machine at high speed and the man catches it in his hand - “QUATRO!” Fanastic! I still have my own Quatro card that was given away in a copy of Smash Hits. At the time I thought it was awesome and everybody at school was really impressed I had my own Quatro card. I hear you can still get Quatro in some South American countries, like Brazil. I’m going to have to make a trip there some day.

It was, indeed, called Quattro, but with TWO 't's, not one. I liked it very much, though was rarely allowed it as fizzy dinks were forbidden in my household (my mum only barely allowed us to have orange squash!) It attracted so much attention because apart from 'Lilt', most carbonated drinks back then were either cola, orange or lemon flavoured, so this was really different (true, supermarkets did do their own brands of cherryade etc., but these weren't available outside of those stores).

For the record I will argue an earlier post that stated it was a mix of Grapefruit, Lemon, Orange and Cherry. Definitely no Cherry in it. Passion Fruit was mentioned before and I would put that up instead of Cherry for sure. However, for those wishing to go to South America to try their Quatro again - it is not the same drink. Quatro in South America is simply a Grapefruit soft drink. Also made by Coca-Cola, yes - same drink? Afraid not.

I can gaurantee that somewhere in a Yorkshire river there's probably an unopened can of this at the bottom. A guy I was in College flung it in. Wonder if it's still there?

I seem to be rather late to this thread, but it piqued my interest and memory, and I found the ad we all remember on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gTUshlWFG0 Quatro!!! Enjoy :-)

Some people might remember another fruity drink that's been gone a while - Cariba. This was a pineapple and grapefruit flavoured fizzy drink, quite similar to Lilt. Maybe a bit TOO similar, which might be why it wasn't with us for long! Speaking of Lilt, I wish they'd bring back the Mango and Mandarin flavour - I used to drink that by the gallon, and was very disappointed when it was discontinued! And to Haizum, no, it wasn't spelt "Quattro", even though this was how almost everybody spelled it
