Duty Free

Duty Free was a sitcom starring Keith Barron and Gwen Taylor as a married couple who travel to Spain. Whilst in Spain they meet up with another couple played by Joanna Van Gyseghem and Neil Stacy.

The upshot is that the husband of one couple has an affair with wife of the the other couple without the other partners noticing - with 'hilarious' consequences of course.

They made three whole series without once leaving the studios at Yorkshire Television... wonderful. Then a Christmas special actually filmed in Spain which oddly, was the much poorer for it in my opinion. As with the filmed specials of Only Fools... and Last of the Summer Wine, the immediacy of an audience reaction was lost, plus there was echoey sound in a real hotel. The studio-bound series were great, though, and one of the first sitcoms I remember watching. I remember Frazer Hines appearing as himself and also Judith Chalmers: "Aren't you the lady from that programme..." / "Go away!" / "Oh, I thought it was Wish You Were Here!" Give me this over "Benidorm" any day. Bring back the Eighties.
