Silly Putty

Silly Putty was fun, plastic putty that came in a plastic egg and was avaiable in all sorts of neon colors, as well as neutral beige. Silly Putty could be used to lift ink off items like newspapers, and could also be used for practical purposes such keeping the water out of your ears when you swim.

Great fun to play with when you were bored at school!

I remember after much nagging, my dad finally let me get some silly putty. it was florescent yellow and I must admit, to this day I did not realise it had a practical purpose, I really thought it was just there to make fart noises, which at the age of 8/9, was absolutely hilarious!

Getting it stuck on the carpet in my bedroom, and leaving a sticky pink mess, knowing that my mum would be mad so having to move the furniture around to hide it because I couldn't get it off.

When I was little my older sister would entertain me with silly putty. She would squeeze it in one hand and the imprints from her fingers made it look like muscles. She would also stretch it out real slow between both hands and say "ca-ri-melll" I know the spelling is wrong but it was how she said it.

The most common use for silly putty was a) make a mould around your thumb, then remove the thump and seal it(trapping in the air) then squeeze the pocket of air until you get a loud pop, and then deny it was you that desturbed the class, b) a bouncy ball(as it was part rubber), c) similar to a, but just move the thumb in and out of mould at speed to create rude noise ..and there was glow in the dark silly putty eventually
