Romper Room

Romper Room was a TV show run like a playgroup - all the four year old children sat around and Miss Rosayln would play games and sing them a song - #I'm a little tea cup# etc. Then the kids would stop and have milk and a biscuit before resuming more playgroup-type activities.

At the end of Romper Room, Miss Rosalyn would look though her 'magic' mirror and see who had been a good 'doo-bee' or a bad 'doo-bee'.

I should remember a bit more about it as I was on it!

"I always do what's right. I never do anything wrong. I'm a Romper Room Doo-Bee. A Doo-Bee all day long." "Watch me walk so straight and tall. I won't let my basket fall. My back is straight and strong you see. It helps to build a healthy me." I can't believe I just remembered those songs. I watched Romper Room back in the 1950's on channel 7, Wheeling, West Virginia.

My son was on Romper Room several days in August of 1973 or 74. He was the youngest in the group that week and the only Black child. He was a talker and talked about taking tap dancing lessons and the bees his great grandfather raised, MS Sally, even, let him do a little tapping on the show. Is it possible to get a copy of those tapes? How?

I was also on Romper Room (around 1970) I remember that it was one of the first ever colour shows, as my mother was told very specifically what kind of clothes I should wear so as they didnt look strange when aired!! I remember the cars, and milk (if memory serves I recall giving out the milk - but that was such a long time ago!) I also remember VERY well, sitting on the carpet whilst Miss Rosalyn read a story about animals, one of which was a pheasant - a me declaring that my daddy shoots those!! - Kids ehh!!
