Lift Off With Ayshea

Even as a five year old I was struck how gorgeous Ayshea was. I also remember a fellow who went by the name of Raving Rupert who I think was a semi regular on the show. When Robert Calvert of Hawkwind died Lemmy, as part of the obituary, said he would always 'remember him (Calvert) as Raving Rupert'. Not sure if they were one and the same but the idea that a semi bonkers poet / space case and wannabe pop star were the same man appeals to me. Had forgotten the theme tune was by pop genius Roy Wood.

I remember being moved by Ayshea's singing ' Farewell ' at the end of one show and being absolutely enchanted by a solitary female dancing to ' The Shepherd's Song ' ( or was it ' The Shepherd Song ' ? ) on one occasion .

I was one of the dancers on Lift Off. We were known as The Feet. Ken Martyn, Guy Lutman, Vicky Shellard and myself Cathy Collins. Ayshea was married to Chris Brough he was the son of Peter Brough the ventriloquist .

@ Frostycat - Muriel Young produced Lift Off & the puppets went with her, so we're both right!

I don't think that's right about Olly Beak and Fred Barker. They were the co-hosts of The Five O'Clock Club with Muriel Young. They didn't appear on Lift Off. I think we had to watch Lift Off because my dad fancied Ayesha. He would tell my mum that I had put it on and he just happened to be there at the time!

She had a hit single-"Farewell". She sang it on Lift off.

The puppet co-hosts were an owl called Olly Beak and a dog called Fred Barker. I think Ayesha did this just after her semi-regulat stint in UFO, then sadly she disappeared.

... and went out with Roy Wood of Wizzard for some time. Where did that beauty go?

Ah, the lovely Ayesha. Yes - it was a pop show (mostly IIRC) I seem to remember reading that Ayesha Brough was the daughter of radio ventriloquist (yes RADIO) Peter Brough of Archie Andrews fame. She also appeared on a semi-regular basis in UFO.

I'd forgotten about this show too! Can't really recall what it was about, some sort of pre-teen magazine show? I do remember how beautiful Ayshea was...whatever became of her?
