Golden Nuggets

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Chewing gum (or bubble gum maybe?) which came in a little tiny draw-string bag. The pieces of gum were yellow and of odd shape, resembling gold nuggets. The tiny bag was made of cloth and had a little draw-string to keep it closed. Had assorted pictures on the front of the bag. I remember an old man in a hat who looked like a typical gold miner.

I remember Golden Nuggets and guess what people, I got a bag just last week at an old fashioned sweet shop here in Belfast. That's not the only thing they had, do you remember Chelsea Whoppers, they stock those too. The bag is the same, the nuggets of chewing gum look the same but I remember the gum being pink inside, this stuff is white when you've chewed for a while and it's much sweeter than I remember, but maybe that's age starting to take effect.

They sound like the sugary muck that kids go for - give me Bran Flakes everytime, gets the "traffic moving south" if you know what I mean ! I rem the Gold Rush bubble gum, the bags were ideal for carrying marbles etc. around in afterwards.

Golden nuggets were a breakfast cereal which were absent from our shelves for about 20 years. I remeber them as being slightly different to the current recipe, with some nuggets shimmering in with a sparkling gold dust covering, and were a lot sweeter. Fond memories of staying at my Nan's house, as we couldn't afford too many brand names at home.
