Potato Puffs were a sort of crisp manufactured by Burton Biscuits. The came in varieties of Ready Salted, Cheese and Onion and Salt and Vinegar. I'm sure that they have gone out of production now but who knows... if enough people remember them and still want them, there could be a Potato Puff revival! You have missed out the best one of all, tomato sauce flavour. Great taste and red fingers lol, ate them every day from 1959 to 1963.

My husband loved the tomato flavoured puffs. They were always hard to get hold of. We would definitely buy them regularly if they would make them again. Please Burtons????

Yes they were my favourite snack I also remembered the flavours beef plain cheese and onion salt and vinegar I would love to see them back in shops I for one would definitely buy them

I remember them so well. They cost 2d a packet and I used to buy them from the tuck shop in primary school. I started school in 1962. The featured picture shows the packet as blue and yellow but I distinctly remember it being red and yellow in my day. Their taste was quite unique and I have never tasted anything like them since. I totally agree with JoJoa that they actually tasted of potato! On an aside note, I also used to buy Burton's Wagon Wheels from the tuck shop. I think they were 3d but they were HUGE and lived up to their name.

Its really surprising the number of us that remember them from school tuck shops. Red and yellow packaging and only a few pence a bag. Nothing like them nowadays. Before their time Nibbets were popular for kids but not as special as Potato Puffs. I think the schools all got sold the idea of a 'tuck shop' by Burtons' van salesmen as a means to make a few extra funds for the school. The Burtons connection is probably why a number of writers remember their Wagon Wheels. I think Burtons did their own choc mallows too. Happy Days !

I remember them so well. I had money for the school tuck shop back in 1964. I was 9 years old. Had the plain salted ones then in came the barbeque flavour. Wow. Bring them back please

Now this is a bit of a stretch. I remember, as a UK school kid in the 60s, sneaking out of school at lunchtime and going to the five o five. This was a local newsagent, sweet shop, whatever, that sold these gorgeous packs of what.... pockets of air? with a wafer thin coating of gently salted crispiness around each one. On the bag it said, Potato Puffs. Seriously, there was nothing to them but they tasted like heaven. They were never readily available, probably radioactive or contained cocaine of something but I adored them! And therefore they'd disappeared before I reached 'big' school.
The closest anything came to the taste was Hula Hoops, but they had and still have no subtlety. No lightness. Great lumpy scrunchy things.....though I still chomp those too! But if anyone knows where to get hold of what I remember as Potato Puffs, please let me know!

I remember Burton's Potato Puffs. They were delicious. We used to have the plain potato ones. They tasted delicious and were a welcomed snack after swimming on our way back to school. Those were the days. The crisps and snacks of today do not taste of real food - they taste synthetic. The soil was not over-farmed then the soil was fertile and had plenty of nutrients and food tasted delicious. Please bring them back. I am sick of the cardboard tasting options of today with too much sodium. We have choice but the choice is not good. They are not nice - even organic taste bad because of depleted soil. Those potato puffs tasted of potato. It would be nice for the kids of today to taste them. They would love them as our generation did.
We also used to get crisps. We would go into a shop and be given freshly cooked crisps and they would be given to us crushed in a small bag. They were delicious too and for the life of me I cannot remember who made them but they tasted so good. I do wish the corporations of today would listen to what we want. They are losing a lot of money. They need to up their game and and stop bringing in items that are tasteless with no nutritional value. We could all rejoice in a lovely potato puff fest and remember the positive bits of days gone by. That would bring people together.
