  • Burton's Potato Puffs
Now this is a bit of a stretch. I remember, as a UK school kid in the 60s, sneaking out of school at lunchtime and going to the five o five. This was a local newsagent, sweet shop, whatever, that sold these gorgeous packs of what.... pockets of air? with a wafer thin coating of gently salted crispiness around each one. On the bag it said, Potato Puffs. Seriously, there was nothing to them but they tasted like heaven. They were never readily available, probably radioactive or contained cocaine of something but I adored them! And therefore they'd disappeared before I reached 'big' school. The closest anything came to the taste was Hula Hoops, but they had and still have no subtlety. No lightness. Great lumpy scrunchy things.....though I still chomp those too! But if anyone knows where to get hold of what I remember as Potato Puffs, please let me know!
