A Country Practice

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

One of the earliest Australian programmes which was chiefly about a veterinary surgeon's office in the outback in Australia.

It was rather good for a programme of its time!

I remember my mum used to be an avid viewer of this when I was a kid. Think it was A Country Practice twice a week and Sons and Daughters the rest of the week. I prefered A Country Practice though. I loved Vicky the vet, Frank and Shirley's daughter and the fantastic Matron Sloane. My mum has the last episode on video still somewhere.

Better than the rest of the Aussie daytime soaps of the time. Or, at least, not as dreadful. Judging by them there were only about 25 actors in the whole of Australia - and every single one was out-acted by a wombat. Towards the end of it's run it also starred Joe Bugner.

Funny thing happened at our local pub last night. For some reason the conversation turned to 'A Country Practice' and of course Fatso the Wombat! Not much detail of the programme but lots of memories of people tuning in just to see Fatso fall of things!

Esme Watts was the local busy body Sergeant Gilroy and his wife Shirley - Terence was one of the doctors who married Alex the red head -the rather formidable matron- and an assortment of guest actors who regularly appeared in other Australian dramas -I loved it!
