Orm and Cheep

Orm and Cheep was a kids TV programme aimed at pre-schoolers. The programme was of the same era and style as Finger Mouse. In Orm and Cheep there were puppets which were slightly creepy! It focussed on a worm called Orm and a baby chick called Cheep. They became very unlikely best friends, and lived together in an old tree. The bad guys, if I remember right, were a ginger cat with very creepy bright green eyes and big claws that used to try and catch Cheep, and a big Rook or Crow which used to try and eat Orm!

"If only I could fly..." The theme, like the series, was very melancholy. The idea was that Cheep had fallen out of his nest, as a baby bird, breaking his wing so he couldn't fly, and therefore had to adjust to life on the ground. Yes, it was a proper spook-a-thon, just before Thomas the Tank Engine on Children's ITV. There were four books of which I had a couple.

I remember this it was narrated by Richard Briers (out of The Good Life)
