MacGyver

Weekly American TV series from 1985 that made science if not sexy then definitely cool.

MacGyver was a sort of agent that worked for the Phoenix Foundation and always got himself into sticky situations usually involving evil communist countries (hey the cold war was still raging). But luckily MacGyver would be able to use his superior scientific knowledge to build things using everyday items to rescue himself and get the girl in the knick of time.

My friend and I loved the theme tune so much we worked out how to play it on the recorder and always played along.

The best thing about MacGyver was his nemesis, Murdoc. Michael Des Barres portrayal of the sociopathic assassin was dead-on. Though frightening, his black sense of humour and penchant for theatrics also made him quite amusing. The entire show was pretty good, but the Murdoc episodes were definite stand-outs.

MacGyver could fix anything or make anything out of duct tape and a paperclip.
