Jokers Wild

Early 70s joke-telling panel game produced by Yorkshire TV, hosted by Barry Cryer and consisting of two teams each with three comedians. A comic was given a subject about which to tell a gag, and if he was interrupted before the punchline by an opponent, the other team would score the point and the original joke teller then had to pick up the joke where he left off, thus having to come up with another punchline. Very sharp-witted, lively show which also featured a 'Solo Spot', where a panellist would do a minute of stand-up on the floor and see how many laughs they could manage - I believe Les Dawson set an unbeatable record of 16 laughs. Well-known faces included Ted Ray, June Whitfield, Warren Mitchell, Billy Dainty, Tim Brooke Taylor, Jimmy Tarbuck and many others.
