Emu's Broadcasting Corporation

Amazingly, at the height of it's popularity, the Emu Broadcasting Corporation ("EBC") had a loyal following of 11 million (sadistic?) viewers.

"Pipe Smoker of the Year" and eccentric millionaire Rod Hull, was the handler of the uncontrollable and often violent Emu, who ate the Queen's bouquet at the 1972 Royal Variety Performance.

It's hard to understand or believe that this seemingly mild-mannered man was actually the master of this highly aggressive arm-length puppet! As Saturday early evening light entertainment it was an absolute winner for kids and adults who watched from behind hands with a mixture of horror and amusement.

Emu was a vicious sociopath. One of my less admirable childhood role models. Using a puppet adored by hordes of children remains the best way to escape censure for your anti-social antics on national television.
