My Child

My Child were beautiful dolls made in the 1980's by Mattel. These dolls were made of a felt type material over a plastic face and had a stuffed felt body and limbs. They tried to compete against Cabbage Patch dolls but unfortunately failed. The US My Child dolls have a green "My Child" heart on their bottoms. The UK/Australia dolls don't but they have longer hair and peachy coloured skin.

I bought my daughter a doll in 1986 which she still has, now we both collect them. We have approximately 130!

I still have my My Child Doll, I got one christmas from "Santa", She had strawberry blonde ringlets, until I brushed the ringlets out. She still has her original blue dress and pilchers with little love hearts on them and her white shoes. She's an Australian version and her name is Amber.

I remember seeing the My Child dolls on the store shelves. I was so into cabbage patch kids back then as I was 14 years old. I remember going up to one of the new dollies that sat on the shelf and saying to my friend. How cute they are, but who would buy one of these dolls?? They would just get so dirty with the cloth face.. And walked away..If I only knew!!!! From the U.S.

I got a My Child doll for my 8th b-day. He was dressed as a sailor and had such a soft face. I named him Matthew. That Christmas I got a My Child baby. She had a hard plastic face and turned her head when you pressed a button on her back. Her name was Kellie. I'm 28 now and my daughters get to play with them.

I have such fond memories of finding my brand new My Child doll in the living room on Christmas day in 1988. I was 9. When I opened her box, the new plastic smell was wonderful. She had big brown eyes, long, shiney brown hair and soft felty skin. she was wearing a little sailor dress in lemon yellow. I loved her hard plastic lace up shoes and ankle socks. I remember telling my mum what one I wanted for Christmas, as I wanted her to have dark hair and eyes like me! I kept her nice and she sat on top of my wardrobe until I was 16. I had an accident with scented candles and she was smoke damaged. Her peachy felt skin turned grey, I found her in a plastic bag when I moved house at 22 years old and gave her to a charity shop. Why didn't I keep her???
