Les Dawson

Les Dawson was an English comedian, actor, writer and presenter. He is best remembered for his deadpan style and curmudgeonly persona, along with jokes about his mother-in-law and wife. Dawson was born in Manchester in 1931, the only child of bricklayer Leslie Dawson, Sr. and Julia Nolan, who was of Irish decent. Les Dawson's first job was in the Manchester Co-op, in the parcels department. He also briefly worked as a journalist on the Bury Times. Les Dawson appeared across many programmes on our TV screens, including, Opportunity Knocks, Fast Friends, Blankety Blank, Sez Les, Jokers Wild, The Loner, The Dawson Watch, The Les Dawson Show, The Grand Knockout Tournament, Nona in Performance (British TV series).
