Cornershop

Cornershop had one major UK hit with "Brimful of Asha". I thought that "Brimful of Asha" was and still is a class tune! I was a taxi driver when this was at the top of the charts, and my call-sign was 45! The controller would always call me for a job in a Cornershop stylee!

Still a well-played tune in my circle! I loved the retro seventies video too! We all owned one of those record players once, Didn't we?

I actually thought Fatboy Slim ruined the song. The original was far superior. This was a fantastic band, and i believe are still on the go. Their earlier albums were very different from 'When i was born for the 7th time'(which 'asha' is taken from) with heavy punk influence mixed with a more bhangra sitar lead style. Well worth a listen if you enjoyed '7th time'. 'Womans Gotta Have It', and 'Hold On It Hurts'.

Last week, I heard "Brimful of Asha" on the radio. My peers and I bobbed and boogied our appreciation. Then some smart arse said the tune came out in our first year of University...nine years ago. Nothing is more depressing than realising what you consider contemporary has gone retro.

It's an interesting fact that "Asha" only became big on the second release: i.e. after Fatboy Slim got his hands on it and pepped it up a bit. I remember hearing the original and thinking it was a great tune but not upbeat enough.
