An Audience With . . .

Get a bunch of (largely) B-list celebrities including such luminaries as weather forecasters and newsreaders and shove them into (probably) one of LWT's South Bank studios. Then make them listen to the ramblings of Kenneth Williams, Ken Dodd etc and tell them to pretend that it's funny and promise them some close up shots of them in the audience. Then put it on ITV at about 8pm on a Sunday in the late 80s and, hey presto, you've got "An Audience With ..."

Watching it, you would spend more time spotting the rubbish celebrities in the audience (ooh, isn't that Wincey Willis, Bill Beaumont etc) rather than listening to the "anecdotes".

I really HATE these programmes. The artist on stage isn't the problem - I just can't stand the cheesy shots of the z-listers in the audience all grinning inanely and clapping with great enthusiasm!

My first memory of this an audience with, was seeing the billy connolly version. billy connolly is my comedy hero along with tommy cooper these shows are just the acts taking to a selected audience of other actors and or comedians. when i first saw the billy connolly version and he got to the joke about the brail school i was laughing so loud and so much i litterly was crying with laughter and had to leave the room, and calm down. this is my first memory of these audience with specials

I supose you generally watched this series when there was a celebrity on it who you like. The best one was An audience with the Bee Gees, not only did you learn their life story, but also their great songs and performances, and great wit. FANTASTIC !
