Altered Images

Clare Grogan - oh, what a babe she was. She was my first serious pop-babe crush and when you get a crush at 13, boy do you get a crush! I bought Pinky Blue in 1982 instead of buying my mum her birthday present! I got their first album Happy Birthday for my 13th birthday in June 1982. Then they went all sophisticated with Bite in 1983. I was into the Beatles by then but still had plenty of time to listen to Clare and dream that one day we would meet! Yes, I had the posters, I bought the picture discs and the singles that came in picture bags (a 45 wrapped in a poster - remember them?). And I had the dreams. I even had an Altered Images T shirt, my first pop T shirt infact! I might be 35 this year but I am not ashamed to admit that when it comes to anything Clare Grogan, I've still got a bit of a soft spot and memories of school dinners at 25p a day, school uniform and kissing one of the many posters in my bedroom come flooding back! 'I would like to climb high in the trees...,'.

The summer of 1981..Altered Images and red Kicker boots - what a great combination for a fourteen year old!

I liked their late '82 stuff- 'Don't Talk To Me About Love' (which is about a girl disillusioned with romance after having an unplanned pregnancy and a traumatic abortion), and 'I See You've Had A Change Of Heart'. Didn't realise she was the actress from 'Gregory's Girl'. There used to be an night club in Bromsgrove, near Birmingham, a few years ago called Altered Images after the band. It's closed down now-needless to say, the inspiration for the name was lost upon the younger generations of clubbers!

Wasn't she on Eastenders a few years back? I'm sure she played Ian's girlfriend. I only watched it so I could see her.

I remember watching Altered Imaged on Saturday morning telly (Multi-Coloured Swap Shop?) Claire was freaking out to Happy Birthday and head butted a guitar giving herself a black eye! That will teach you to mime badly!

CPG was a babe? She was ok in Gregory's Girl...but better as kochanski in Red Dwarf in the early 90s. I seem to recall seeing her on VH1 a few years back as a VJ....
