Raleigh Lizard

The Raleigh Lizard was a green mountain bike with 18 gears, and came with a bright-orange bottle cage and a black water bottle. I had one when I was 11 and rode it to death. My dad replaced countless rear tyres, due to me having skidding competitions with my mates. It was covered in spokey dokeys, reflectors from Cornflakes and Frosties, and stickers from Monster Munch.

Unfortunately I don't have my Raleigh Lizard any more but have many fond memories and great adventures on it. If I remember rightly I got it for my eight birthday in 1990! I know the feeling about missing it. It was a smallish frame on 24" wheels which lasted quite a while but even at not very high 5'8" I completely out grew it and my parents sent it on its way in 2000'ish. I had far to many reflectors (in other peoples opinions) on it from Cornflakes and Frosties packets too. Grand days...

I still have my raleigh lizard and ride it regularly to and from work. I have had it since my 12 birthday, so it's been with me for a fair few years. However I have modified it with bull bars on the handles, and repaired it with a new padal and new tyres but other than that the rest is all original. I keep thinking of selling it but I know I would miss it too much.

Me too. Still riding it in 2019. A great quality bike. Must be 35+ years’ old now.
