Racers

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

I saved up all my pocket money and my wages from my paper round to buy my first racer - a "Townsend" - cost me ?70 from the local bike shop and I was soooooooo proud of it.

Everyone else seemed to get one of these. The idea of the drop handle bars was so cool. The down side was that the chain often came of the gears - 10 speed for most. Us three speeders with sit up and beg handle bars had no problem - clean hands and no back ache. You can see I wasn't jealous.
