The Magic Roundabout

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Used to be on just before the 6 o'clock news. Dougal, Dylan, Ermintrude, Florence and Brian entertained us with a 5 minute story before Zebedee boinged onto the screen and said, "Time for Bed" and Mr MacHenry cranked up the Magic Roundabout until the next time.

All time favourite! Dougal was my big favourite too. Although I have a funny association of potatoe mash with this programm I still love the memories. Keep them coming!

Looking back the whole thing was a bit surreal. What was Zebidee all about, bouncing around on a spring and Dylan the drugged-up rabbit, and I'm still not exactly sure where the roundabout fitted into things. It always signalled the end of childrens' TV for the day as it was on before the grown-ups' news with Robert Dougal, Kenneth Kendal and Michael Aspel.

Mr Rusty operated the Magic Roundabout. Mr McHenry rode around on his trike. There were sometimes three other children, Rosalie, Paul & another boy whose name I forget. I had the Magic Garden toy when I was a kid. It would be worth a fortune now.

It's actually a French programme and in France, all the characters have proper voices (Dougal actually speaks with an English accent !). I was disappointed to see the British version with a narrator, it takes the whole fun out of it !
