Cresta Drink

"It's frothy man!" So the ad said. Cresta was the orange flavoured, probably the sweetest most plastic-tasting drink you can imagine but as a 7 year old being dragged round Clacton market, it was probably the best taste in the world. Cresta was opaque and thick and frothy - God only knows what was in it! I worked for Schweppes at the time, the original had real milk but it was a nightmare for quality control due to milk going off and caused a lot of problems with line and equipment cleaning (CIP). Not sure what was in it additive wise but obviously the shelf life was improved when milk was removed. No doubt plenty of people preferred the original taste to the newer one.

Pineapple was my favourite, followed by blackcurrant and then lime. The strawberry one was ok. Orange was yuk. Cream soda one not even worth remembering, lol

Cresta lemonade isn't the real thing - even if it is made by Coke! Real Cresta from back in the seventies was thicker than normal pops, a super day-glo colur and so full of additives that you glowed in the dark! Fabulous stuff, how I miss it ...

Cresta was nuts wasn’t it? So much sugar you could almost feel your teeth rotting but heavenly.

I remember cresta lemon or lime. use to get it at the chippy. Use to make you feel wired, a bit like the milk in clockwork orange, hey! maybe that was one of their flavors to. Yes two bottles of Cresta, and the phone box gets it!.

Cresta was wierd really, those disgusting lurid colours and being frothy rather than fizzy. I can't imagine what they used to put in it.

The reason I'm on this site is that I searched for "Cresta" on the web... Why??? Because last night... I poured some Tesco's own brand - Orange flavour high juice into a glass to dilute with white lemonade! Nice!... However... I got it mixed up with the Cream Soda... And hey presto! I was sent back to the 70's in a flash! haha... THATS how they made Cresta!!! Have a go... Its true!! hahaha Tom Liverpool
