Goldie Hawn plays Private Judy Benjamin who joins the army on a whim after her husband dies during their wedding night. As the film's tagline says "The army was no laughing matter until Judy Benjamin joined it".

At first Private Benjamin seems oblivious to the tough reality of the army and then realises she has made a bad decision when her superior begins making advances towards her.

Later she is transferred to Europe where she decides to marry Frenchman Henri - but does the wedding ever happen?

    Didn't it spawn a spin-off as a TV series? I remember the army-style marching chant that was the theme tune, it became quite a cult in my old school!

    Goldie Hawn stars in this 1980 film telling the story of Judy Benjamin's army career. Judy's husband dies on their wedding night and in a state of grief Judy signs on with Uncle Sam.... the recruiter however should not be trusted! The army experience is not quite what she had in mind or was lead to believe! But after trials and tribulations she makes good and rises through the ranks and learns that she can be an independant woman!
