Candy cigarettes

During the 1970s, 'everybody' smoked! If you were a young kid you had to make do with candy cigarettes instead (we called them 'sweet fags' (oh innocent days!!!)) until we were old enough to start smoking properly. I have a very good memory of buying 'Superman' candy cigs! They were probably on sale at the same time Superman himself was beating up Nick O'Teen on tv ads on ITV! And of course, we used to 'puff' on them for a few seconds before scoffing them. All part of the fun. :-)

God, I remember being able to buy a 1/4 of candy cigatrettes, the bag was huge, not the little white paper bags, the medium paper bags and only cost 20p.

you can still buy both types. i work in a newsagents and we have the spiderman white candy sticks with a tattoe and a card inside and also the chocolate ones in the boxes called old toad, and others, still white paper around them. kids love them - just like we did either thoe they taste quite horrible!!!

We had these in Australia too. They were also called fags and they were the white hard ones with the red colouring on the end. My dad used to go to the corner shop and get them for me and my sister when he got the newspaper and a packet of smokes. I really don't know why mum didn't swat him let alone how the lollies could've even existed in the first place. Especially looking back from the way society is today.

They were called fags and were musk flavour, but then in the 90s they changed the name of them to Fads. They are still available here in Australia.

Here in the States, back in the early 60's, we had candy cigarettes made of white hard stuff with some kind of red stuff in the middle, and if you blew on them, a powder would come out - kind of like smoke. But the flavour was awful!
