Huckleberry's Burger Bar

Does anyone remember Huckleberry's? It was like a Wimpy. There used to be one in Putney, London, in the early 1980s. There was an advert on the TV which used to go, "But have you ever been to Huckleberry's, you just ain't lived!" It's driving me mad because nobody remembers it!! I used to love their huckleburgers.

I used to work for Huckleberry's as a Manager, trained above the Lewisham store in early 1982, then moved to the Oxford Street before working at the Watford restaurant. I remember one of the promotions being if you purchased a HuckleBurger you got a free kite, then everyone met in one of the London parks for a kite festival

I regularly went to the one in Tottenham Court Road in tghe early 80's. When Burger King took over they ended up with two Burger Kings opposite one another !! :) Huckleberry's was by far the best burger chain .

I remember the one on Uxbridege Road, Shepherds Bush also. We used to have our birthday parties there instead of Wimpeys. They made the best milkshakes and burgers. Bring them back.

All the Huckleberrys mentioned here, and others too, were sold to Wimpy, who in turn were sold to Burger King. From memory, there were Huckleberrys at Upton Park, Oxford Street, Crawley, Portsmouth, Great Portland Street (head office), and Dartford, in addition to the others mentioned on here. Does anyone remeber their fish sandwich? Fresh cod, battered, special sauce in a seeded bread. Much better than filet-o-fish etc.!

There was one in Watford too. I loved their Huckleburger, it kicked McDonalds and Wendy's into touch. Don't remember Burger King being around at the time, but it was better than their wopper is too.

I recall a Huckleberrys in Watford around 1983. The fried chicken was so much nicer than KFC. wondered what happened to them and Poppins restaurants.

Yeah, I remember Huckleberrys in Putney - I used to go in all the time sniffing thinners tripping out of my head (especially the winter of 84') when it was snowing hard and I bought The Essential John Michel Jarre in Our Price over the road. What about Freeways in Wandsworth and Tiffany's in Wimbledon- The good old days. Must be movin on.....

I visited London in the summer of 1981. I was a student and required to keep a journal. I hadn't looked at that journal in years and found it not long ago and was reading about the fantastic milkshakes at Huckelberry's. We stayed at the Goldsmid house in Oxford which is no longer there. Nice to know I didn't just imagine Huckelberry's.
