Lolo Ball / Pogo Ball
Lolo Ball / Pogo Ball :
The idea of a Lolo Ball or Pogo Ball was to place your feet on the ring part and to keep your balance as you bounced up and down. With experience this turned into an alternative (if ultimately slow, energy draining and annoying) method of transportation! Also known to some as a Spaceball or Spaceballs.
The Lolo Ball was also known as a Springbal, Lolobal, Disc-O or Pogobal and was mass-produced by Hasbro in the mid-eighties.

The original fiendishly difficult puzzle,
now with solution guide
The original fiendishly difficult puzzle, invented by Erno Rubik in Hungary and one of the biggest toy crazes ever. In 1982 Hawkin's Bazaar was the first to bring a few cases of the Rubik's Cube to England. Unfortunately 25 years ago we were very small and it wasn't long before a much larger company had the exclusive rights to distribute in the UK. We are very pleased to be offering it again! And now includes a new seven step solution guide.

About Hawkin's Bazaar
Hawkin's Bazaar has been providing you with unusual gifts, toys and gadgets since 1973. Originally a local toy shop at the Hawk Inn (hence the name), Hawkin's Bazaar now sells things you thought had gone forever and things you never even knew existed. They bring you Pin Art, Morph, Rubik's Cube, Big Trak, Space Hoppers and much more.

So, you've had your eye on the latest Barbie doll, or perhaps the newest, shiniest Transformer, so where do you keep all those carefully counted pennies safe? Kids never had there own bank accounts, so in order to keep the thiefs (ie, brothers and sisters) at bay, they used to have to resort to rather more underhand tactics. So, thank you Tonka Toys for Finders Keypers! Modelled on various animals, Finders Keypers were marketed in the 80s as part toy, part treasure chest - and something every little princess needed in her life! There were snails, kangaroos, swans and more, and each came with its own plastic key so you could store your valuables (read: fuzzy stickers, Gold Rush Bubble Gum, and as many friendship bracelets you could stuff inside). This secret compartment was hidden in their bellies, cleverly concealed by cutesy, coloured decoration and combable hair that made Finders Keypers far too innocent-looking to have any secrets of their own. The original series of Keypers comprised six different characters, and was followed up by a more advanced second series, sporting glittery eyes and long, colourful hair. Some even glowed in the dark, like Glo Friends toys! New characters came with accessories and included bears, cats, squirrels, rabbits, dogs and ponies. Given the success of the Keypers toys, it's hardly surprising that the 80s also brought a cartoon with it. Even younger children were catered for, when Tonka Toys released Baby Keypers (shown in the photo), which came with a snappable inner compartment rather than a lockable one. Small keys and small mouths don't go well together, after all. But everyone has something to hide...

It was the only time that I had the wind knocked out of me, but man I was determined to master that toy! It was the coolest thing ever, one of the toys that I can honestly remember quite clearly and now that I think about it, I think it even had physical excercise merit. Those toys rocked! I wonder of they still exist?

I remember jumping too hard and hearing the plastic hit the pavement!

I had a loloball, which I guess was a cheaper version to the pogoball, and I remember the kids would always say, "That's not a real pogoball". I would try doing that aerial kick that was shown in the commercials and let go of the loloball before landing on my feet. I often found that the plastic ring would slip down.

my friends dared me to jump down concrete steps...of course i did it and i was out of school for about a week...i skinned my back!

I remember my Pogoball had a purple ring and silver ball, I spent more hours with it than all my other toys combined!! I even jumped rope with my Pogoball, isn't there some way to bring them back, I'd love to own one again, and I'd LOVE to teach my sons how to use them safely!!!

I remember when the spoiled kid across the street got one. We were hanging around after school... you know, during the window of opportunity before your parents get home from work... Anyway, his mom pulls into the driveway and he yelled like a little brat "MOM, I WANT A POGO-BAL!" She said ok, he got in the car, and they returned with one. My brother did eventually get one for Christmas that year, but my 'equivalent' present was a Spalding Basketball. I think I got the better deal. I think that basketball is still in my parents' garage.

I remember on my step-sisters birthday getting a pogoball(she got one too) I would get so angry because i couldnt figure it out and my sister got the knack of it right off...i eventually learned and remember how my ankles got so sore from using them to gripp the sides of the ball

I am in the US - so we called the Pogoballs. I won a Pogoball contest at our local Wal-Mart for whoever could bounce the longest. I won a gift certificate for the toy section and I bought a waterbed for my Jem doll. I gotta get one of those again.

I loved the pogoball! My younger brother and I both had one and we would take them to school with us everyday on the bus. Thats what we did everyday at recess, jump, and have contestes with our friends to see who could go the longest, or the highest , or do the best trick. I wonder what ever happened to that, or if I could ever find another one!

'PogoBal is wot ya call it!' LOL I remember we had one, and I loved that thing. I was one of the kids that got the knack of it straight away. I jumped rope with it, too. I remember we'd always fight over it. I wish they'd make them for adults now, like they make those big exercise balls, LOL.

i had one! Even though i'm just 15 now i had one when i was little, i just never knew what it was called. I could never balance on it though, and it was kinda deflated. I always thought it looked like a planet to me.

I used to love the pogoball. Me and my sister both had one and used to have competitions to see who could stay on it the longest. i never won - she used to push me off mine. Brilliant toy - wish they would bring them back.

I never had one but all my friends did and they used to let me use theirs. I always remember getting blisters on the sides of my feet from the ball, but it was a really fun toy and we'd spend hours just bouncing

I loved my lolobal... I used to bounce on it to and from first school all the time and envy those who had the coveted glitter lolobal.

In the US I just saw a commercial for a Zoingo Boingo, which looks *incredibly* similar to the Pogobal, but it has a stick with a handle on it. It's by Spinmaster, I believe - here's the website - www.zoingoboingo.com

It wasn't easy to get your balance standing on the ring but once you were on board, with the top part of the ball gripped between your feet, you could bounce around till your hearts content. Or until you got blisters...!
80srockchild 10-Aug-2007, 03:10:47 PM
I had one of these, though I can't remember it having a specific name. In the UK they must have been cheap copies of loloballs or pogoballs which I am guessing were American brands. It didn't take long for the ball to deflate and the plastic to bend to an unbouncable degree.

loved it!!!! i never had a major spill on one personally, but my roommate told me about how he almost broke his wrist. still, the best toys were always the dangerous ones

I had a LoloBall - it was a red ball with an orange disc. I used to jump for hours - literally! We used to see who could last the longest and we'd use skipping rope too. God, I was a healthy kid!
