Mortal Kombat

Ah the very first Mortal kombat game. The one that had the controversy, raised a lot of eyebrows a lot of ire and garnered a lot of blame for violent crime. It spawned the ESRB rating system for extreme violence and many sequels ( I have all the games ) also movies comics and animated episodes and series. My favourite character had the move which made many parent lose their lunch and take aim at politicians yes Sub zero with his infamous head rip. The gore the glory and being able to annihilate and humiliate your opponent after trouncing them. Been nearly 30 years since it was launched and a lot of the newer fatalities in the most recent sequels have gone from a few drops of blood from decapitation to being split in two, skinned alive and torn to pieces. Yet 30 years ago this game had many an imitation. Killer instinct on snes kasumi ninja on Atari jaguar cardinal syn on PlayStation yet mortal kombat is the only one still going strong while all others have been subjected to brutality. Who was everyone else's favourite character I'm guessing a lot will say scorpion who has now become the figurehead of netherrealm studios who took over the rights when midway folded. Midway had a go at another fatality based fighter called war gods for PlayStation it didn't go well but yes I own it. Kerri Hoskins the female motion capture actress for pagan and vallah happened to be Sonya Blade in mortal kombat 3. I was still in high school when the first game came out and had the lamed out snes version with no blood and tame fatalities that would make someone say tis but a scratch. But still enjoyed kicking shang tsungs gnarly old butt into extinction. Anyways would love to hear about people's memories of this at the time unique and controversial game.
