Mivvi Ice Creams

Mivvi Ice Creams were made originally by Lyons Maid. They were an ice-cream centre with a fruit ice outer shell and were available in orange at first but later strawberry and raspberry were added as alternative flavours.

Walls made a similar lolly called a Split I think. I seem to remember this was also available in pineapple. Mivvis are still around, only now they're made by Nestle.

Strawberry Mivvi had a thick sticky red ice coating with creamy vanilla ice cream in the middle. Probably artificial flavours & colours, but absolutely divine! Many happy memories of this special treat on hot summer days. Awesome!

Me too! I watched “The Six Thatchers” (Sherlock on MASTERPIECE) again on PBS (WNED in Buffalo, NY) today in Toronto, Ontario. They also aired S4 E2 “The Lying Detective”. I’m glad my DVR (PVR in Canada) picked them up.

I loved these. If Mum was flush we would get one of these each (for me and my brother). Orange or strawberry Mivvi's on a hot day. The lolly part was thick and syrupy til you got through to the ice cream. They lasted ages. All the lolly's now are watered down and fairly tasteless compared to the ones in the seventies.

Except you don't get the raspberry ones any more. They were bumpy on the outside like a raspberry and the last one I ever had some idiot in a range rover bashed into the back of my mum's car and it came flying out of my hand and landed in the grit on the floor (actually so did I as it was in teh days before seatbelts):-( My mum said she'd buy me another and I've never had it :-(

Well they were kind of equivalent but the shapes were different. The raspberry split was shaped like a big tongue, and had a darker more flavoured feel than the mivi. The best was the pineapple split. I had them all, in all flavours. The mivvi had tapered edges, so more corners. They just don't make sweets as well today especially wagon wheels which are nowhere as good as then. And cheeselets, hopeless now they bake them instead of frying.
