Dick And Dora

Dick And Dora was a series of primary school reading books, very much like the Janet And John, Peter And Jane or Topsy And Tim series, from the the mid-1950s, but they can still be found dog-eared and slightly dusty on the shelves of many modern-day school libraries. They had unique illustrations, I remember, making use of stylistic shading. Nip the dog and Fluff the cat were largely featured in the Dick And Dora books, and remember all of them running together a lot of the time. And because they ran alot (like children used to), they got to see a lot of the world and have great adventures together. The Dick And Dora series was so simple compared to today's books, but they really got your imagination going.

I apologise for any spelling or grammatical errors in my posts. After reading these books I suffered from severe learning difficulties along with trauma induced dyslexia.

I was born in '54 and we had these. I seem to remember the teacher playing the Pianoin the hall, and singing a song that went with the Dick and Dora books. It went something like.... 'Dick and Dora, Jack and May; Nip bow wow and Fluff meow' :-)

The above picture on the left takes me straight back to school.....I seem to remember that page. I found the books boring because I always loved reading and needed more. I had these books at school from 1955.....

I thought I was the only person who remembered these school books. Good to see I'm not. I grew up in Glasgow and attended primary school from 1968 to 1973 and fondly remember these books. Great memories, thank you

I think there was also a penguin called Plop. Weren't the Dick and Dora books published under the name "Happy Venture" books?
