The Shadow Cage

This was a popular compilation of ghost stories, that was published by Puffin around 1979. The supernatural was hugely popular in the '70s, so no collection of children's ghost fiction could possibly fail in those days.

I never had a copy of my own, but borrowed it from the library and can safely say that there wasn't a single duff story in it. Every single one was superb. If you ever see a copy in a secondhand bookshop, bag it if you can- it's just as enjoyable for adults too, and guaranteed to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck if you read it at night alone!
