Choose Your Own Adventure Books

Choose Your Own Adventure Books were not your average books - there was no point reading them from cover to cover as they wouldn't make any sense. You had to start at page one, reading it as if you were the main character (who never had a name) and read to the bottom of the page where you would be given a choice of options for what you wanted your character to do. Depending on your choice, you would be sent to a different page in the book following a different adventure.

Some options allowed you to have quite a long story, while others made the story finish in about 5 pages and you'd have to go back to the beginning and start again to see what adventure a different option might bring.

Choose Your Own Adventure Books were available in a range of styles: wild west, sci-fi, mountain adventures etc. I can't remember them all, but I had my favourites!

I had a Goosebumps book like this that I loved. I always thought these would be really complicated to write.

I read who killed Halowe Thromby! I read loads actualy, mystery of the maya was one of the best, and, there was one I can't remember the name of, it was about ghosts of cowboys and indians that reappeared every so many years to re-live killing each other, that was amazing! So many of these thatI love, I can't belive my mum took them all to a carboot sale, I loved them so much! What was the one about finding atlantis, there was absolutely no way to do it except one option that said turn to any page, ooooh the robin hood story! Loved it!

I had 2 books of this type with the famous five characters. T hey came with a dice and a code and map and a binocular shaped card for decoding. one was red and one was green. I think one was based on a train.

I was just telling my husband that I can't believe he doesn't remember these books. I probably read about a dozen of them. I liked reading all the variations of the stories to get the most out of them.

Those were so cool. I would pick every option just to find out how many other choices I would get.
