Zoids

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Zoids spawned the Starriors line in the 1980s and went through a few incarnations, such as regular Zoids in the early 80s and Robo Strux later in the decade.

Zoids were basically motorized models that required no glue or paint for assembly. They enjoyed more success in Japan and the line started up again in August '99.

I remember my Gran (bless her) bought me the spider Zoid, black anbd white if I recall. Took me ages building it and the only memory of it in use was at my grans friends house whereby I let it go on her dining table that had those massive rug type table cloths (usually dark orange)

As I remember, there was the small normal zoids and the BIG zoids. The big ones were a Diplodocus (Bigosaurus), a T-rex (Zoidzilla), a triceratops (Red Horn), a gorilla (Iron Kong), a mamoth (Mamoth the Destroyer) and a pterodactyl (Krark). They were also others later on that I can't recall, lol.

My brother has the T-rex and I was so jealous....that was until I got the huge King Kong Zoid which stood almost as tall as the T-Rex. I was so chuffed. :-) You cant seem to find the original ones any more - not the big ones anyway.

Always remember the big T-Rex with the red plastic light up eyes. This was one of the early 80's models. I always remember them being really sturdy and solid. My friends little lad has one of the newer versions and they're really cheaply put together.
