Bay City Rollers

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Teen sensation of the seventies - kinda like an early version of Take That. Perhaps their most famous song was Shang-A-Lang although the band produced a string of top ten hits.

Remembered not only for their music but for their crazed and obsessive fans who would go to any lengths to get a glimpse of the boys.

I still have my two Bay city Rollers albums. Memories of listening to these albums with my older brother while my younger brother pretended to play the drums with 2 toothbrushes on a fake leather foot stool :o)

Used to love the Rollers. Money was tight in our house, like a lot of people then, so we couldn't afford the tartan gear that went with them. I remember cutting the tartan lining out of my duffle coat so that I could sew a strip down the side of each trouser leg.LOL. I wasn't too popular with my Mum when she'd found out what I had done.

My friends were mad on them, being a tad older than them, I was not, although I did like some of their singles. However I still get sad and annoyed by the fact they, as they were young and naive, were right royally stitched up over their contracts, and ended up with meagre financial thanks for all their work.I may not of been a great fan, but they made music many loved, and did no harm, so I just hope finally they are now getting some of the royalty payment, that had been on hold for the courts to decide upon.

I also vividly remember being sent home from school because i went wearing a bay city rollers jumper, scarf and trousers!! Not really the regulation school uniform i was supposed to wear!

My last memory of the band was a sad one. A documentary of Les McKeown and Tam Paton rowing over the millions that were made from the band. Also Derek Longmuir being hauled into a police station on child pornography charges alothough they were dropped. Alan's stroke prevented the band playing in Manchester a few years back and Eric and Les fighting over the rights to the BCR name. They were so good in their day how crule life can be to have everything at your dooor and have it ripped away. I still hope they do a tour

I went to see the Bay City Rollers at Newcastle City Hall when I was around 13. I remember my dad gave us a lift, and being the doting dad; waited outside until the end. I wish I had a pound for everytime he told someone about all the girls who had fainted, being carried out and laid in the street! He never got over that!
