Raleigh Bomber

I found a Raleigh Bomber on eBay a couple of weeks ago and bought it there and then!

I had had one as a lad and it was my pride and joy. I took it everywhere I went, even on holidays.

I remember asking my mother months before Christmas to buy me one but she said they were too expensive. I had tears in my eyes when I woke up on christmas day to find she had got me one.

Sadly I used the Raleigh Bomber so much I ended up snapping the frame in half.

So as soon as I found this one on eBay I just had to have it!

I wanted one so much I paid for it weekley on the Grattan Catalogue, it took me forever to pay off at ?1.50 a week but never regretted it. I did regret selling it to buy a bike to cycle to Scotland on. I have just bought a mountain bike to go out with the kids, was the bomber a forerunner or what!

i also got a bomber for xmas, about 83 methinks,i left school with it and started my first job with it (an apprentice panel beater),on my way to work i pulled a wheelie from the lights, apon the front wheel returning to the ground the frame promptly snapped, when i got to work i welded it in my lunch our then striped it bare, rubbed it down and the painter painted it honda bright red,it looked awsome,it got nicked very soon after,i was devistated,i even shed a small tear writing this.the 80s were the best,if i could do it all again i would change nothing.

I had a metalic blue bomber around 1982-3, all my mates had them too, we called ourselves the bomber boys or something. The paint started to peel off after about a year so i striped it to chrome it looked real cool, then the forks snapped a couple of times.I finally got a girlfriend and didnt bother with the bomber for a while, when i went to the shed some months later its gone,my younger brother sold it. I never forgave him.

I got one for xmas back in (iirc) 1982. It was a black one with the 3 speed hub (I didnt want the one with gears but Dad made me and strangely made me pay the ?10 difference. I'll get over it one day). It was a great bike and pretty tough. I kitted mine out with black BMX pads in case I slipped onto the crossbar. I have to say the saddle was the most comfy I ever sat on. 24 years later? Well I still have it. It kind of passed to my brother, he fitted more narrow road wheels and a rear mudguard but never used it (too lazy). It now hangs in the garage, still in pretty good knick, though the decals are a bit scratched (I still remember the moment I did it). Great bike, ahead of its time.
