Raleigh Bomber

I found a Raleigh Bomber on eBay a couple of weeks ago and bought it there and then!

I had had one as a lad and it was my pride and joy. I took it everywhere I went, even on holidays.

I remember asking my mother months before Christmas to buy me one but she said they were too expensive. I had tears in my eyes when I woke up on christmas day to find she had got me one.

Sadly I used the Raleigh Bomber so much I ended up snapping the frame in half.

So as soon as I found this one on eBay I just had to have it!

I've had my Raleigh Bomber since new when I was aged 11, which was about 1982. I had to have the seat in its lowest position and I still couldn't touch the ground with both feet. I remember pulling wheelies for ages, and it was quicker than my brother's Chrome Burner and a lot more comfortable to ride. It's still totally original, although the decals are a bit scratched. Someone has just asked to buy it. What are people paying for them these days? At 37 I just don't get chance to use it, although I'd be sorry to see it go to a new loving owner.

me and my pal had a bommer each in shetland, scotland during the late 80's. he rescued one from a neglected state, restored it with new front forks (interesting to see many comments on these failing!), paint job, stickers and brakes. i bought it from him and he got a newer bommer with 5 speed and in better nik. he always had the better bike!! we toured the village for years on them and they were so comfy - we thought they were the bike equivalent of harley davidsons! they were polished every week with the chrome wheels gleaming. i don't know what he did with his one, but mine has been in our basement for years and was unearthed last night! pumps up the perishing tyres and they held! its due for a trip to the local bike restorer for a full overhaul and hopefully i'll be on the roads again soon. it is much smaller then i remember it though :(

I bought a box full of mark 1 Bomber from a car boot sale about 7 years ago and never got around to `restoration`.Now Dads retired,he asked if he could `have a look at it`.Just a few weeks later he called me into his shed and there it was!! Shouting"come on,jump on me & take me out for a spin ya big kid! Just like the oldern days. What a bike what a machine, what a Dad! Oh and the price for the box....£1.50 mate!

Got my first one at about 17 when i started work and could afford one.I think it was about £125 in 1984.Dont know what happened to it but i got another one aged 29 and stupidly gave it to my girlfriend at the times' son.I'm now 6 weeks off 40 and i have another and ride it to work just about everyday.I dont think i'll ever forget the 80's when i used to ride to houghton golf club on the country roads and accross warden law quarry in the blistering sun .Sometimes It was if i was the only person on earth ,it was so peaceful you could only hear the birds singing and the odd car drive past now and then .Oh the priceless memories

I don't remember the Bomber from the 80's, but I love Raleighs and I found a red Bomber at an Atlanta thrift store a few weeks ago. It's PERFECT down to the Bomber stickers with the searchlights. I did Critical Mass on it tonight. What a blast! I had a Yamaha Moto-Bike myself back in the mid 70's. I DESTROYED that thing, but I got my money's worth!

I just bought my first Raleigh Bomber. And I'm 30! It's the metallic blue one - and yes, the paint is peeling off - but in a twist, it's got massive PINK tyres. Rad. Really catches the eye of every 6-year old I ride past. Love it. His name is Pepe.

I never had a Bomber myself, but my older brother did. Luckily for me he enjoyed having a lie-in, so I would be up and gone on it long before he knew. It was a real rufty tufty looking bike, black and silver with the Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub and big fat tyres. I could wheely it for ever, all my mates used to hang about 5 minutes away from my house, in front of a large green, just before I came into view I would pull a massive wheely, it probably did nothing for them, but I felt like a hero!! Funny enough, the front wheel bearings were knackered, all them heavey landings!!
