Belle and Sebastian

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

TV series about an orphaned boy called Sebastian and his large white dog, Belle, possibly a pyrannean mountain dog. It was first shown on Nickelodeon in 1984 and continued showing until 1990. The name 'Belle and Sebastian' was later taken by a 1990s Glaswegian indie pop band.

I remember Belle and Sebastian. I was enthralled. The ones I remember was with a stunning lady Isabelle and an element of romance with the guy.. Now I was quite young so I remembered the man as Sebastian's father. I think they married in the end. Belle Sebastian and the horses.. Because Isabelle rode on a horse a white one I think on the beach where Sebastian and Belle hung out.

Yes, I reem, ber it from the late 60's when I was about 5 or 6. It was French cubbed int oEnglish and Sebastien was the most beautiful little boy with a sad face and great big eyes. Almost as pretty as the dog! It had a very haunting theme tune. I also remember White Horses, Robinson Crusoe and the Flashing Blade - FB was great and had the best theme tune "We've got to fight for what is right, to live the way we please...." Ah, great memories : )

Originally billed as "Belle, Sebastian and the Horses". "White Horses" with its catchy theme tune was a different series!

B & S was first transmitted on British TV in 1967, followed by B & S and the Horses in 1968. this was the decade of French childrens' programmes being shown here, remember the wonderful Robinson Crusoe, with the greatest theme music ever, and the Magic Roundabout - the English scripts had no connection with the original French, just used the animation!

Dee you're thinking of 'White Horses' which has a separate thread! Very similar in that it was one of those foreign things dubbed into English. Can't remember the tune for Belle and Sebastian...

It was on the BBC back in the late 60s. I watched it at that time. It was dubbed into English - was it originally French? Can't remember any of the storylines, but I loved the dog.

yeah, must have been on in the 70's as I would have been 23 in 1984 and definitely wasn't watching it then! I reckon it must have been shown in late 70s. I was born in 1961.
