Give Us A Clue

Give Us a Clue was that show where you had to convey the name of something by acting it out, in a manor akin to cherades.

There was a girls team and a boys team, and they had to compete against each other to get the most points. The girls team was captained by Una Stubbs and the mens team by Lionel Blair.

I'm still not sure to this day how putting your thumb and forefinger up to your eye signifies a letter A, but hey, it worked for Lionel for years.

They had loads of 'sounds likes' too. Sounds like ........ shoe...... and they'd all shout out NEW BLUE DO TWO GOO HOO JEW? like a bunch of primary school kids trying to write a poem.

Remember the poor guy who read the wrong side of his card and wasted valuble air-time trying to mime his own name? My heart went out to him!

The original, televised, game of charades. Yes I remember it being Lionel Blair and Una Stubbs. Was it a book? A play? A film?A TV programme? Or a song? Number of words? How many syllables? Great fun.

For some of the madder phrases, I'm sure it must have been rigged! I love the finger on the nose and pointing when one of the teammates correctly guessed. I only really saw the shows with Lionel and Liza Goddard!
