Pennybrix

Pennybrix were a lego-style building set I had in the 70s, but instead of dots, the tops were made from a square split into 4 "corners" (difficult to describe). I think they got their name because you could a place a penny in the square on the top. They were only available in red, but you could get yellow wheels and blue roof tiles (which were individual and would require serious quantities to make a sizeable roof) You could also get windows and doors which could be installed as full units. I loved them and only betrayed them when Lego brought out its first Technical car (the one with the boxer engine and adjustable seats).

You've solved a mystery for me by talking about Penny Brix and Mr Periwinkle... I have a Bendy doll about 22in high - I was told it was advertising in shop window but until now couldn't find any mention of Mr.Periwinkle, always wondered what he and his tall green hat were advertising? Thanks for clearing up this mystery after so many years of looking after him.

I was given a box of Penny Brix by Triang in the early 60's. I still have it & have taken a photo of it. It has been well played with, not just by my sisters & myself when we were young but also by my two children who are now in their teens. How do l upload a photo for your website? Denise

I also had these bought for me in around 1968, I remember having two accompanying figures with the bricks, a top hatted green figure, and a cap wearing blue figure, I too would love to see photos of these bricks and accessories, but am also unable to find anything online

I think the cap wearing blue figure would be Mortimer Mole the postman.

Also remember Penny Bricks, and am disappointed that I cannot find a photo anywhere online. I remember the little figure, and always called him Mr Pennybrick... didn't realise until now that that was not his name.

Like Peter of Hepburn, I had penny bricks when I was a child and I often think of the time when both my parents were alive and the happy times. I remember getting them for Christmas and I remember Mr Perriwinkle. I also remember my brothers friend standing on Mr Perriwinkle and breaking him. I was so upset. I loved and cherished my penny bricks. My brother had a wooden farm yard and I made the farm house with my penny bricks. I had great fun. Does anyone remember Tressy with the hair that grew. I still have mine. Carol, Belfast
