Dance DANCE

The Locomotion

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

"Everybody's doin' a brand new dance now (C'mon baby do the loco-motion)". In 1987 Kylie Minogue reached number one with her hit single "Loco-Motion". And with the song came a "brand new dance".

Technically speaking though the dance wasn't new since the record and dance were a cover of a 1960s song by Little Eva.

They actually taught us the locomotion in gym when I was in grade school. It was super cool. LOL

    I don't remember a thing I wasn't born until 1991. Sounds real stupid though.

The Locomotion is easy to do, you can even do it when you're feeling blue. Everybody had to form a chain by putting their hands on the hips of the person in front of them and then danced around the room in a chain like the carriages on a train, picking up more people on the end as they went. A couple of years ago we performed the Locomotion in a retro pub in NZ called Barneys (it even had a dance floor with flashing squares) and it was a massive hit with the other punters.
