You Were There

This was a historical mockumentary aimed at kids in the Saturday morning slot circa 1975, possibly imported from the US. The host was a rather fatherly American type figure and I think he carried a mic and a clipboard and went around interviewing all the parties involved in a major incident in US/European history. It was quite realistic, with some convincing set pieces and good actors. It would always end with the host looking straight into the camera lens and uttering something along the lines of, "Today thousands of people were buried alive by boiling hot lava when Mount Vesuvius exploded in Pompeii... and remember... YOU WERE THERE! "
