The Little Mermaid is my absolute favourite Disney film ever. I was about 3 or 4 years old when this film came out and I'm 19 now. I secretly sometimes wish I was a mermaid!
Basically the Little Mermaid was a cartoon story about a mermaid called Ariel who is best friends with a fish called Flounder. Ariel collects human things from shipwrecks and longs to be a human but her father, Triton, who is king of the sea, hates anything to do with humans.
Ariel visits Ursula, the sea witch, and gets to be a human for three days, but she has to give Ursula her voice in exchange. Ariel tries to make the prince Eric fall in love with her, but tragically they run out of time, and ultimately Eric has to go and save her.

The film has a happy ending, of course, they kill the sea witch and Ariel becomes a human permanently and she marries Prince Eric.
